Gudjohnsen: I'm no Larsson
Barca new boy Eidur Gudjohnsen does not want to be compared with Henrik Larsson.
Barcelona's latest recruit Eidur Gudjohnsen does not want to be compared with Swedish legend Henrik Larsson at his new club.The 27-year-old Iceland international has taken over Larsson's number seven shirt, after the veteran striker decided to return to his native Sweden at the end of last season.
But while Gudjohnsen appreciates the contribution that his predecessor made at Camp Nou, he feels he can make a name for himself in Spain.
"I know what Larsson did here and people will say I am his substitute, but I have my own style of play and I do not want to be constantly compared to him," Gudjohnsen explained.
The former PSV Eindhoven and Bolton Wanderers forward also revealed that Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho had indirectly inspired his choice to go to the UEFA Champions League winners.
"We never spoke about me actually going to Barca, but when Mourinho referred to this club, like when we played them, he did so with great passion and explained about the significance of the club for Catalunya and the pride the Catalan people have in it," he added.
Barca have already started to welcome their new £8.2 million man, beginning with the club's technical secretary Txiki Begiristain.
"He was our first option and now he is here," Begiristain revealed. "It is the signing we wanted to make.
"He is a strong player, a fighter, has great movement, can score goals, and has a strong character."
