Whittle nets new Mariners deal

Justin Whittle has signed a new one-year contract at Grimsby Town.

Justin Whittle has signed a new one-year deal at Grimsby.

Whittle, 35, has impressed since joining the club from Hull City in June 2004.

The former Celtic and Stoke defender made 40 appearances for the League 2 side last season and captained the side in the absence of John McDermott.

He becomes manager Graham Rodger's second signing in 24 hours, as Gary Croft has also signed a new deal to keep him at the club until 2007.
