Owen set for Steadman visit

Michael Owen will visit famed knee doctor Richard Steadman in a bid to treat his injury.

England and Newcastle striker Michael Owen will visit famed knee surgeon Dr Richard Steadman in a bid to treat his cruciate ligament injury.

The Magpies star saw his World Cup cut short in terrible fashion as he ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in the 2-2 draw with Sweden, and as a result he is expected to miss most of the coming season.

The Premiership side have now opted to send Owen overseas for the crucial treatment as they look to have their number one striker back in action as soon as possible.

Steadman's reputation as a knee specialist is unrivalled in the game, and he has previously treated former Magpies strikers Craig Bellamy and Alan Shearer.

The Premiership side confirmed they will be using Steadman's expertise on a statement posted on their official website.

"Newcastle United have been in touch with Dr Richard Steadman at his Colorado clinic with a view to him assessing Michael Owen's knee injury and deciding upon the best treatment for Michael," read the statement.

"As a result, Michael and club medical staff will travel to America in the next few weeks to see Dr Steadman.

"For the time being, Michael will remain in Newcastle under the supervision of United's medical team."
