Leko 'excited' by Monaco

Jerko Leko is aiming to make up for his World Cup disappointment at new club Monaco.

Jerko Leko is aiming to make up for his World Cup disappointment with a promising start to his Monaco career.

The Croatia international has signed a two-year deal with the French outfit after joining on a free transfer from Dynamo Kiev.

The deal was agreed prior to the World Cup, with Leko now having rubber-stamped his move to Stade Louis II.

And, following Croatia's first round elimination in Germany, the midfielder is relishing the next stage in his career.

"This World Cup has been disappointing for Croatia," Leko told his new club's official website. "But it is the past.

"I am now totally concentrated on Monaco. I can't wait to start playing.

"I feel their project is ambitious and I am happy to be part of it. I am very excited.

"Having played for Dynamo Kiev has been a great experience. I have played a lot of Champions League games. I have learned a lot about tactics and discipline."

Meanwhile, Monaco centre half Gael Givet has expressed his dismay at the sale of his defensive partner Sebastien Squillaci to champions Lyon.

Givet is now considering his own future in the Principality, although Monaco will be reluctant to lose another stopper.

"When I knew he left, I have been affected," said the France international.

"Since that event, I look at things in a different way and in my mind I told myself maybe it is time to turn the page.

"It is the beginning of my thinking. Frankly, I don't know if I will remain a Monaco player next season.

"It is possible for me to leave, but I have not talked with my officials yet."

New Monaco coach Laszlo Boloni is eyeing a new right back, centre half and two midfielders, with Paris Saint Germain's Bernard Mendy and Lyon's Anthony Reveillere under consideration.
