Glennon seals Terriers switch
St Johnstone goalkeeper Matt Glennon has completed his move to Huddersfield Town.
St Johnstone goalkeeper Matt Glennon has completed his move to League One side Huddersfield Town. The former Carlisle man has long been a target for Terriers boss Peter Jackson after some magnificent displays against the Yorkshire club in the past.
Glennon has agreed a two-year deal at The Galpharm Stadium and will vie with Paul Rachubka for the starting place in the League One opener against Gillingham on August 5.
"I have followed Matt's career since he was at Carlisle when he had those three outstanding games against us," Jackson told the club's official website.
"He has always impressed me and I am delighted he's signed for us. A couple of other clubs took an interest but we were the only place he wanted to come to."
Glennon, meanwhile, is delighted to be returning to the Football League after a spell in Scotland and is aiming to help the club return to The Championship as soon as possible.
However, he knows he faces a stiff challenge from Rachubka for the number one shirt next season, a contest the 27-year-old is relishing.
"It's a fantastic move for me. Huddersfield is a big club and I know a lot of players who have played here and they say it is a fantastic place," Glennon added.
"Even though he didn't need to, Peter did a great job selling it to me. His ambition for the club is massive and hopefully I can be a part of it.
"I don't want to go to a club where I can just walk into the team. You have to fight it out with each other in pre-season for the shirt at the start of the season.
"If I get it I'll want to keep as many clean sheets as I can and get promoted as quickly as possible. To be playing in The Championship in 12 months would be fantastic."
