Freddie vows to play on

Sweden star Freddie Ljungberg has pledged that he will continue to represent his country.

Sweden star Freddie Ljungberg has pledged that he will continue to represent his country.

A number of Sweden's senior players have indicated that they will retire from the international scene, but the 29-year-old has vowed to carry on.

"Of course, I will continue to play for the national team," Ljungberg told Expressen.

"I have never had any doubts, I love to play for the national team, it is an honour.

"I am proud to represent my country."

The midfielder is still lamenting the disappointing 2-0 defeat against Germany in the first knock-out stage of the World Cup.

The Arsenal midfielder admits he is at a loss as to why his side defended so poorly against Germany.

"We are not positive in our defensive play, instead we drop back," he added.

"Their strikers are not the fastest in the world. But when we drop back, they get space in front of our defence.

"On both goals, they can receive, turn around and play the ball on.

"It was a big match against the host nation, but at the same time we have got much experience in the side and shouldn't be hit by the occasion."
