Germany coach Jurgen Klinsmann admits he is uncertain of what the future holds.
Jurgen Klinsmann admits he is uncertain of what the future holds following Germany's 2-0 defeat to Italy in Tuesday's World Cup semi-final.In what was a fine game in Dortmund the hosts eventually fell to the Azzurri in extra-time, when the Italians struck twice in the dying minutes.
Prior to the tournament's commencement and there had been scepticism as to whether Klinsmann was the right candidate to lead his country but after assembling a young side that has defied all realistic expectations, there have been calls for him to stay on as national coach.
However, Klinsmann - who resides in California - is loath to rush in to a decision and instead, will make an announcement after a period of reflection.
"My own situation is not the most important thing right now. I need some time to let all of this sink in and some time to speak to my family," said Klinsmann.
"A lot of things have happened over the last two years and now it's time to take a deep breath.
"I've done nothing other than put all my energy into trying to get us to the World Cup final, but I can say that I'm delighted at the fact that we have won the respect of the country.
''The players have enormous potential and have attracted attention in international football.
"We should not be afraid of the future - in Germany we have every reason to be optimistic about our footballing prospects.
"Quite a few players have made a name for themselves and attracted the attention of major football clubs around the world.
"We have a very young team and they did fantastically well throughout the tournament - the spirit and character they showed was amazing.
"They played tremendously, they gave all their heart, and played passionate, attacking football.
"The World Cup has been a huge success for the team and for the country and has shown a whole new German face to the world - and that is something we can all be proud of."
Former German captain and current president of the World Cup organising committee Franz Beckenbauer is one such admirer who feels Klinsmann is the ideal coach to continue the good work he has already set in motion.
"The fans like him, the players like him and I hope he stays on."
