Bristol Rovers defender Christian Edwards has retired from professional football at the tender age of 30.The Welshman has plied his trade at a number of Football League clubs, after beginning his career at Swansea City.
He made 112 appearances in the league for The Swans before signing for Nottingham Forest for £275,000 at the beginning of 1998.
The Caerphilly-born player later spent time on loan at Bristol City, Oxford United twice, Crystal Palace and Tranmere Rovers.
Manager Ray Graydon brought him to The Memorial Stadium in 2003, where he spent three years, making a total of 110 league and cup appearances for the club, returning to The Liberty Stadium on loan last season.
Edwards earned one full international cap for his country, as well as two B caps and made seven Under-21 appearances.
A health scare at the end of last year saw him require a brain scan and heart test, and while he was passed fit to return to action, he has now decided to bow out of the game for good.
Instead, he has decided to concentrate on his studies and begins a three-year sports management degree at Cardiff University in autumn.
