Di Canio set for Cisco switch

Paolo Di Canio looks likely to continue his playing career in Serie C2 with Cisco Roma.

Veteran forward Paolo Di Canio looks likely to continue his playing career in Serie C2 with Cisco Roma.

Di Canio's contract at Lazio has expired and the club admit a new deal for the 38-year-old is not a priority.

That stance ignited talk that the former Sheffield Wednesday and West Ham United ace would retire to concentrate on obtaining his coaching badges.

He is due to start on the road to being a coach later this month and has expressed a desire to manage Lazio later in his career.

But it appears those plans are going to be put on hold amid reports Di Canio is due to sign a two-year contract with Cisco Roma.

Italian regulations prevent footballers from playing, and taking a coaching course, at the same time, so Di Canio will have to wait to become a boss.

His proposed deal with Cisco Roma will also include the option of a third year, meaning he could be playing into his 40s.
