Barca turn to Thuram
Barcelona are being tipped to move for French World Cup star Lilian Thuram.
Barcelona look set to turn their attention to Lilian Thuram after being frustrated in their attempts to land Gianluca Zambrotta. The veteran defender enjoyed a fine World Cup for France and could soon be up for grabs if Juventus are, as expected, relegated from Serie A for their part in the match-fixing scandal that has engulfed Italian football.
Barca are keen to strengthen their back-line and had initially hoped to snare Thuram's Juve team-mate Zambrotta.
However, the Italian full back is also being chased by Milan and Real Madrid and the Catalans have found it hard to make much headway in their pursuit of the 29-year-old.
As such they have now decided a move for Thuram could prove more profitable despite the Frenchman's age.
At 34, Thuram would not be one for the long-term, but, having seen his superb displays at the World Cup, Barca believe he could bolster their squad and are reported to be preparing a two-year contract offer.
The stopper's agent has confirmed the player is currently on holiday and will not make a decision on his future until Juve's fate is known, but admitted a move to Spain would definitely appeal to the veteran.
"Thuram is on holiday at his house in Guadalupe, he is calm and right now is not thinking about taking decisions," agent Oscar Guiseppe Damiani told RAC-1.
"First of all he will wait for the sentence and then in 15 or 20 days he will decide his future.
"His destination would be between England, Spain or Italy, everything is possible, but nothing has been decided."
