Crewe close on Kempson

Morecambe defender Darran Kempson is set to sign for Crewe Alexandra.

Crewe manager Dario Gradi has confirmed that Morecambe defender Darran Kempson will sign for The Railwaymen.

The 21-year-old is expected to sign a one-year-deal at Gresty Road and Gradi has stated that he expects Kempson to prove to be a solid understudy in central defence.

"Darran will sign for us today and we feel that he could go into the team if we need him, and, over the season, we will," said the Crewe boss.

Kempson is expected to be back-up choice in the heart of the Crewe defence next season, behind fellow newcomers Julien Baudet and Neil Cox.

"He has a lot of things going for him - he is mobile for a big lad and physically very good," Gradi continued.

"He certainly hasn't been fazed by anything and he will be here for a year so we can work with him."
