Chivu in new Roma vow

Cristian Chivu insists he wants to play for Roma next season, despite interest from Real Madrid.

The Romanian defender worked with new Real coach Fabio Capello at Roma and reports have mooted the possibility of a reunion.

Chivu has regularly been linked with a move away from the Italian capital, with Internazionale noted as previous admirers.

The centre half admits he is fed up of the constant speculation and has again pledged to stay at Stadio Olimpico.

"I'm pleased to be staying at Roma," affirmed Chivu.

"For the last three years I always say the same things and I'm tired.

"I'm pleased by Real Madrid's interest because they are a big club, but it gives me more pride the fact that Roma put me on their list for this season."

Following the outcome of the Italian match-fixing scandal, Roma are likely to be playing in the UEFA Champions League next term.

Chivu was satisfied with the Giallorossi's efforts last season and wants the club to continue the upward momentum.

He added: "We must take the right path for this season because in the last one we have had a lot of stimulus.

"This year we will have to find more of that."
