X-rays revealed that he also had a cracked ankle bone, and the player underwent surgery on Thursday to repair the damage.
The injury comes is a big blow to both the club and player, as they look to win their way back up to the top flight from League One.
They face Hull City, Leeds United and Sheffield United in their three remaining warm-up matches before the campaign kicks-off in earnest at Bristol City on August 5.
