Robinho: It was team's fault

Robinho admits Brazil let the country down in bowing out of the World Cup in the quarter finals.

The holders relinquished their title in the last eight in Germany after Thierry Henry's goal sent France into the semi-finals.

The defeat has seen coach Carlos Alberto Parreira quit his post, while several senior figures have been criticised for poor performances.

Real Madrid ace Robinho feels it is unfair to single out individuals, but concedes Brazil failed to play to their capabilities.

"In Brazilian football there are always guilty people when you lose and heroes when you win, but we have to end with that," Robinho told O'Globo.

"We all have the fault for what happened, most of all because we didn't play in the way we are used to.

"If we are sent out of a competition, but played like we always do, it's not such a big problem, but that didn't happen this time.

"We didn't play against our rivals in the way we should have and we didn't manage to play like we always do.

"Personally I don't like the way in which we lost because we didn't give to the people the football they are used to seeing from Brazil."

Veteran full backs Cafu and Roberto Carlos were a particular target for the team's detractors, but Robinho has launched a staunch defence of the duo.

He added: "Roberto Carlos is a player that will never be forgotten in Brazil because of all the titles he has won.

"The same happens with Cafu. Nobody can deny all that they have given to Brazilian football.

"Regarding my personal performance, I was well prepared for playing and I thought that I was going to have a good performance. Now the only thing that I can do is to wait until 2010 and try to bring the cup to Brazil."
