Sosa heads out of Atletico

Atletico Madrid midfielder Marcelo Sosa has joined River Plate on a season-long loan.

It appears that the Uruguayan international has now played his last game for Atletico as, with only one year left on his deal at the Vicente Calderon, he will effectively be out of contract when the loan ends.

The 28-year-old was informed by new Atletico boss Javier Aguirre that he did not feature in his first-team plans and subsequently opted to move on.

Sosa spent last season on loan at Osasuna, but the Navarran side opted against making the deal permanent.

He joined Atletico from Spartak Moscow in 2004 but was never able to cement a first-team berth in the Spanish capital making a total of 28 appearances for the club.
