Martin not jolly about Carrick

Tottenham boss Martin Jol was sorry to see Michael Carrick leave White Hart Lane.

Tottenham boss Martin Jol was sorry to see Michael Carrick leave White Hart Lane.

Manchester United finalised the near £19 million capture of the England international on Monday evening and Jol admits it was a disappointment to him.

"I don't want to talk about business. It's about a player and he fitted in well," he told Sky Sports News.

"It wasn't easy to say farewell, but you have to sometimes. He wanted to go there, so we let him go and they had to compensate us and that was okay.

"We will miss Michael because Michael was one of the finest players in the last couple of seasons.

"But we have to try to forget him and I think if you see Didier Zokora, he's one of the best in Europe in the holding position role.

"He's one of the contenders. We've got other players that can be asked to play in this position.

"Edgar Davids can play in this position. Tom Huddlestone is a fine player that can play in there as well, so there's no worries."
