Rennes fancy Super Mario

Reports in France claim Mario Melchiot is in transfer talks with Rennes.

The 29-year-old Dutchman is available on a free transfer after his contract with Birmingham expired at the close of last season.

Melchiot proved to be an accomplished performer during his time in The Premiership but it now looks as though he is to seek pastures new in Ligue 1.

Rennes are known to be in the market for a right back and see Melchiot as the ideal candidate to fill the problem spot in the forthcoming campaign.

As yet neither player or club have commented on the speculation but the early indications are that a deal could be struck before too long.
