Tymoschuk favouring Celtic
Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Anatolii Tymoschuk favours a move to Celtic.
Shakhtar Donetsk chief Mircea Lucescu has revealed that want-away captain Anatolii Tymoschuk favours a move to Celtic. The 27-year-old is a target for a number of clubs after his performances at the World Cup in Germany.
Bhoys boss Gordon Strachan is one of the midfielder's suitors and has already tabled a bid of £3 million (é¼4.4 million) for the Ukraine international.
Although keen to keep Tymoschuk at Donetsk, Lucescu concedes he will have to let him leave, but only if the SPL champions match his £6.8 million (é¼10 million) valuation of the player.
Dutch giants Feyenoord are also reportedly in the race to sign Tymoschuk, but Celtic are his preferred option.
"I have had a long talk with the player and I am sure he wants to go to Scotland," Lucescu said in the Daily Record.
"He said he wants to play in Britain and likes the idea of Celtic more than Feyenoord.
"Celtic have offered us hardly anything. I have promised him I will let him go because he wants to have an international career.
"But if I let him go for this kind of money then the value of all the players at my club will drop by half."
Meanwhile, Lucescu has denied reports in Holland that Tymoschuk is set to join Feyenoord after the two clubs agreed a fee.
The Donetsk boss is determined to get the full value for the player and insists Tymoschuk will not be allowed to leave for less than é¼10 million.
"It is not true. There has been no agreement because they have not offered enough," Lucescu added.
"He has 60 or 70 caps and is one of the best defensive midfield players in the world.
"So how is it possible that I can accept losing my captain for é¼4 million? The price is é¼10 million - minimum."
Serie A side Roma are the latest side to be linked with the Tymoschuk, with reports in Italy suggesting coach Luciano Spalletti is targeting the Donetsk ace to bolster his midfield ranks.
