Torino eye Barone

Serie A new boys Torino are hoping to capture Palermo midfielder Simone Barone.

Torino are desperately trying to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season and the signing of the Italian World Cup winner would be a real coup.

Club president Urbano Cairo confirmed that they were speaking to Palermo about Barone, who has previously been linked with the likes of Juventus, Milan and Internazionale.

"Barone? Yes we are interested in him," Cairo stated. "We are talking with Palermo."

However, Cairo dismissed rumours that Torino were also chasing Inter midfielder David Pizarro.

"We have never spoken to Pizarro about him," he insisted.

"Anyway, the transfer window is not shut. We will try to do something good."
