Tristan to stay at Depor

Diego Tristan has confirmed he is to stay at Deportivo La Coruna.

Diego Tristan has confirmed he is to stay at Deportivo La Coruna and fight for a first team berth after rejecting overtures from abroad.

The freescoring Spaniard has fallen out of favour at the Galican outfit and had seemed all but certain to attempt to rejuvenate his career elsewhere.

Scottish champions Celtic were strong suitors, along with Portuguese duo Benfica and Sporting Lisbon, but Tristan has now confirmed that at this stage of his career a move to foreign shores did not appeal.

Tristan is hopeful that he will be able to win back the faith of his coach Joaquin Caparros, who thus far in his tenure has deemed the striker to be surplus to requirements.

''I did not understand the absence of Spanish offers for me,'' said Tristan.

''But now I have the option to fight for a place in the team.

''From today that is my objective. Sincerely, to play in a foreign league is not very attractive for me.''
