Mido hopes for second chance

Mido is hoping for a 'second chance' at Roma, after rejecting a switch to Blackburn Rovers.

The Egyptian international, who recently completed an 18-month loan spell at Tottenham, had become embroiled in one of the summer's longest running transfer sagas.

Hoping to bolster his squad following the departure of Craig Bellamy, Rovers manager Mark Hughes initially targeted the rangey front man, who appeared to have no future at Stadio Olimpico.

Rovers agreed a fee of £3.5 million with Roma for the 23-year-old, but after weeks of negotiation failed to broker a deal, Hughes switched his attentions instead to Benni McCarthy.

Mido claims he has no qualms about turning down the opportunity of a switch to Ewood Park, and now hopes to resurrect his Giallorossi career, even if he is under no illusions about the challenge awaiting him at the capital club.

"I am grateful for this second chance with Roma," said Mido.

"I refused the transfer to Blackburn, even though the money was higher, because I want to stay here and face this challenge."
