Rooney FA row continues
Wayne Rooney may withdraw his help from The FA's commercial programme.
Wayne Rooney could withdraw his co-operation from The Football Association's commercial programme, according to his agent.
The Manchester United striker is upset that he has been banned for three Premiership matches for his pre-season sending off against Porto.
Rooney feels he was treated harshly by The FA, who opted to uphold referee Ruud Bossen's decision to dismiss the forward for catching Porto defender Pepe.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has already claimed that he had been assured by The FA that his star player would not be suspended for the incident.
The 20-year-old's agent Paul Stretford has now written to FA chief executive Brian Barwick to complain about his client's disciplinary treatment.
In the letter, Stretford also intimated that Rooney could refuse to be part of any future commercial agreements with the England squad.
"I am writing on behalf of my client to express his utter dismay at the decision not to overturn the ban," Stretford wrote in the latter, which was published in The Sunday Telegraph.
"Rooney feels extremely let down by The FA on this matter.
"While he will continue, if selected, to play for his country with pride and commitment, he is considering withdrawing his support for The FA's commercial programme.
"In other words, he will not allow his image to be used or exploited, or participate in personal appearances for and on behalf of The FA's commercial partners, unless he is satisfied with how The FA conducts its affairs in regard to player matters."
