Henry only '60 percent' fit

Thierry Henry has revealed he is a long way off full fitness after the World Cup.

Arsenal striker Thierry Henry has revealed he is a long way off full fitness following his summer exertions in Germany.

The 29-year-old was an integral part as France went all the way to the final of this summer's World Cup, only to lose on penalties to Italy.

Henry participated in all seven of Les Bleus' matches in Germany and claims he is still on his way back to peak condition.

The Frenchman and Freddie Ljungberg, who was in Sweden's World Cup squad, were both in action for Arsenal against Aston Villa at the weekend and Henry says they are some way away from full fitness.

"I am not even at 60 percent, no way near," Henry said in The Sun. "While Freddie Ljungberg tried ever so hard, and you have to give him credit for that, he is not fit either.

"Fitness-wise, I need another month. Certainly four or five games.

"Obviously players who were at the World Cup are in a similar position. But, this was only my second game while it was Freddie's first.

"Our preparation games are league matches rather than pre-season friendlies."

Meanwhile, Henry concedes it will take some time for the Arsenal players to come to terms with playing somewhere other than Highbury.

The Gunners played their first Premiership match at their new Emirates Stadium against Villa and Henry has asked the fans to bear with the players as they acclimatise.

"There was a great atmosphere but - and I think the fans who went will agree with me - it still did not feel like home," he added.

"I think our fans left with a strange feeling and, if it is any consolation, so did I. It will take a while.

"As for the team, we are not there yet - but you have to remember we have a lot of issues, such as injuries."
