Cannibal denies Chelsea ills
New signing Khalid Boulahrouz has denied reports he faked an injury to sign for Chelsea.
Jose Mourinho's latest signing Khalid Boulahrouz has dismissed suggestions that he faked injury to secure a move to Chelsea. The 24-year-old defender missed Hamburg's UEFA Champions League qualifier against Spanish outfit Osasuna two weeks ago.
Had he played, he would not have been able to play for another club in the early stages of the competition.
Reports emanating out of Germany have suggested that the ankle problem he sustained in the warm-up was not genuine, but that is a claim the Dutch international wholeheartedly refutes.
"Nobody is in a position to say such things. I had pain and could not play. That is the end of it," Boulahrouz insisted.
"Everybody could see it. I have been suffering since our training camp and HSV knew all about that."
The versatile stopper earned the nickname 'Khalid the Cannibal' in the Bundesliga, but has moved to ease fears among the British public.
"Nicknames are always a bit over the top," Boulahrouz explained.
"I went to Hamburg and my German was not so good. So I tried to explain with my hands and show some moves how I am on the pitch.
"The next day I opened the paper and it said 'The Cannibal signs contract until 2008.' I didn't say I eat my attackers."
Boulahrouz could be in line to make his Chelsea debut as The Blues continue their Premiership campaign against Middlesbrough at The Riverside on Wednesday.
