Hull City boss Phil Parkinson has put striker Jon Parkin on a special diet and training regime to get into shape.

The former Barnsley, York City and Macclesfield Town hit-man came back to the club in not the best of shape at the start of pre-season.

The £150,000 January signing has been working hard to bring his weight down, with Parkinson pleased with the efforts of the tall goalscorer.

"Jon didn't come back from the summer break in the best of shape," Parkinson told the Daily Express.

"But full credit to him, he's doing everything we have asked of him.

"He is working very hard and his weight is coming down now."

The 24-year-old admitted to having a summer of excess, but is determined to be in top physical form for the remainder of the campaign.

"If I'm honest, I let myself go over the summer," Parkin told the Hull Daily Mail.

"The previous summer, I had a few personal problems and perhaps I let my hair down a little bit too much this time around.

"I gave myself a mountain to climb coming back but hopefully, I'm not too far off the top of that mountain now.

"In every game now, I'm getting there and with another couple of games, I'll not be far off."

Parkinson, meanwhile, is still searching for a new striker after handing former Millwall hit-man Carl Asaba a trial, while the club are thought to have tabled a bid to Bradford City for former Tigers striker Dean Windass.
