Roten go for Golz

Veteran goalkeeper Richard Golz has come out of retirement to join Hannover 96.

Veteran goalkeeper Richard Golz has come out of retirement to join Bundesliga outfit Hannover 96.

The 38-year-old shot stopper officially ended his career at Bundesliga Zwei club SC Freiburg at the end of last season after losing his first team place last term, but has now jumped at the opportunity to join the Reds as understudy to Robert Enke.

Hannover coach Peter Neururer was forced to act after his reserve goalkeeper Frank Juric suffered a knee injury that could threaten his career.

Golz, who has made a total of 452 Bundesliga appearances for Hamburg and Freiburg, put pen-to-paper on a one-year deal after passing a medical last week.
