Bayern swoop for van Bommel
Bayern Munich have completed the signing of Barcelona's Mark van Bommel.
Bayern Munich have completed the signing of Barcelona midfielder Mark van Bommel. The Dutch international has moved to the Allianz Arena on a three-year deal for a reported é¼6 million (£4 million) as Felix Magath looks to fill the gap left by Michael Ballack's departure.
With the German captain joining Chelsea, and Ze Roberto also leaving on a free transfer, the capture of van Bommel will go a long way to strengthening the Bayern midfield as they attempt to retain their Bundesliga crown.
However the German champions have previously insisted that van Bommel's arrival will not pave the way for Owen Hargreaves to join Manchester United before the transfer window closes on Thursday.
Former PSV Eindhoven midfielder van Bommel will begin training with his new team-mates on Tuesday, and the 29-year-old says his priority is to help his new club again reign supreme in Germany.
"Then let's see what we can do in Europe," van Bommel added in a press conference.
"Bayern always has a strong team that allows it to perform well there."
