Racing land Serbian striker

Nikola Zigic has moved from Crvena Zvezda to Racing Santander.

Nikola Zigic has moved from Crvena Zvezda to Racing Santander on a four-year deal.

The giant Serbian was thought to be a target for both Blackburn and Portsmouth but has elected to try his hand in Spain after agreeing personal terms with Racing.

Zigic proved a revelation at Crvena Zvezda as he netted 45 goals in 76 appearances, with the league and cup doubles secured in both 2004 and 2006 testimony to his efforts.

The 25-year-old will put pen-to-paper on his contract once he returns from international duty next week, with Serbia facing European Championship qualifiers against Azerbaijan and Poland.

While Zigic failed to impress at the World Cup his huge frame and powerful physique could pose problems for Spanish defences this season.
