Pompey fail with Korean deal
Portsmouth have failed with a bid for South Korean winger Lee Chun-soo.
Portsmouth have failed with a bid for South Korean winger Lee Chun-soo, according to his agent.
The 25-year-old former Real Sociedad star is currently playing in his homeland with Ulsan Hyundai - the current K-League champions.
Pompey made a move for him, but his agent Han Jae-woon claims the offer was not sufficient enough to entice him to England.
"Portsmouth made an official loan offer for Lee Chun-soo," Jae-woon said.
"But the player has said he will not go."
Ulsan vice-president Kim Hyeong-ryeong confirmed Portsmouth had been in contact - but he insists it was only for a trial.
"Recently we received a fax from Portsmouth," he said.
"The club wanted Lee to go to England for two or three days for a trial before deciding if they would take him on a year's loan."
The Chun-soo deal is the latest failure for Portsmouth boss Redknapp
"We have bid for a lot of players this summer but clubs don't want to sell their best players," said Redknapp.
"Really and truly, we need at least two more in before the deadline but I don't know if we can get them.
"We need to improve the squad. We can all see that. We need an injection of pace in the team in several positions.
"But I don't know if it's going to happen. I just have to keep going."
Redknapp also revealed that he feels that he has lost Celtic's Stilian Petrov to Aston Villa.
"I think you will find Petrov has gone to Aston Villa," he told the BBC.
"That is the plan and we wish him all the best."
Meanwhile, Pompey's move for Manuel Fernandes could be put on hold until January.
Portsmouth agreed a deal worth around £10 million - but he failed to pass a medical and it seems unlikely he will be fit enough to pass a medical before this week's transfer deadline.
Now Fernandes will continue with Benfica, before a move to Fratton Park is rekindled when the transfer window reopens next year.
"I am prepared for this challenge, but not 100 percent," said Fernandes.
