Sheffield United have wrapped up a surprise move for Brighton & Hove Albion striker Colin Kazim-Richards.

The young forward has signed a three-year contract at Bramall Lane after The Blades agreed a £150,000 fee with Brighton.

Neil Warnock concedes Kazim-Richards was not his first choice target, but feels the 20-year-old has the potential to be a success in The Premiership.

"We thought that in the circumstances, after a couple of our targets fell through, he would be a good signing," Warnock told the club's official website.

"He has shown in the past that he has potential and we're hoping he will progress like we think he can - he's had a stop-start time at Brighton, but we will give him the chance to impress and improve."

Kazim-Richards only joined Brighton last summer from Bury, with the transfer fee paid by a fan who had won a competition.

He scored six goals in 43 appearances in The Championship, but asked to leave The Withdean Stadium following Brighton's relegation to League One.

The Seagulls rejected the request, while Barnsley had shown an interest in the player, whose attitude disappointed Mark McGhee.

The Brighton boss has been unable to prevent Kazim-Richards' departure, with the attacker now aiming to make an impact in the top flight.
