Spurs seal Chimbonda deal

Tottenham have finally clinched the signing of Wigan full back Pascal Chimbonda.

Tottenham Hotspur have finally clinched the signing of Wigan Athletic full back Pascal Chimbonda.

The French defender has been chased by Spurs for much of the summer after handing in a transfer request on the final day of last season.

He travelled with Les Bleus to the World Cup finals and has been waiting for the chance to secure a move away from Wigan since returning from Germany.

The Latics were determined to receive their full valuation of the 26-year-old, who arrived at The JJB Stadium from Bastia last summer.

Spurs had several offers rejected by Wigan before finally having an offer accepted on Thursday afternoon.

With the transfer deadline fast approaching, the ambitious Premiership side pushed through the deal for Chimbonda prior to the closure of the window.

Chimbonda told the club's official website: "I always wanted to be here. For me it is a footballing decision. Tottenham is a great club where I hope I can play my best football.

"I'd like to thank Damien and Martin for their persistence in making this happen."

Tottenham's sporting director Damien Comolli was happy to conclude a deal to add the right back to Martin Jol's squad.

Comolli said: "Pascal is a terrific right back, solid defensively and good in the air. He is a complete player who can create chances offensively as well.

"I'm delighted that he has joined us, he is a player who really wants to be at this club and do well for us."
