Kromkamp has no Reds regrets
Jan Kromkamp has no regrets about his time at Liverpool as he prepares to face them.
Jan Kromkamp insists he has no regrets about joining Liverpool as he prepares to face The Reds less than a month after leaving the club.The Dutchman left Anfield to join PSV Eindhoven on transfer deadline day after finding his first team chances limited at Liverpool.
Kromkamp spent six months at Liverpool after arriving from Villarreal, but he only made seven start in The Premiership.
The full back is relishing locking horns again with his old team-mates in Tuesday's UEFA Champions League tie.
"I found it hard to find my rhythm when I was not given much playing time," Kromkamp told the club's official website.
"I need to play games to get in shape. I loved my spell with Liverpool and I will always cherish fond memories of the FA Cup final.
"But now I am delighted to be here, as PSV are a great club."
Kromkamp also believes PSV can add to Liverpool's Merseyside derby woes by inflicting defeat on them at the Philips Stadion.
"Liverpool are a quality side," added Kromkamp. "But I feel you should not even start a game when you lack the confidence to earn a victory yourself. So yes, I think we can beat Liverpool.
"The Champions League is a completely different kind of competition.
"A team will only be eager to return to winning ways once they have slipped to defeat."
PSV coach Ronald Koeman, who ended Liverpool's Champions League reign last season with Benfica, does not expect the Everton result to have too much effect on Liverpool.
"Liverpool will field more or less the same players," said Koeman. "They have made some changes, but not that many.
"I expect they will play their familiar game. They still have the same coach and their game-plan will not have changed much.
"We [Benfica] met them twice last season.
"I have learnt from the double leg that they are hard to beat. That's why I think the result of the Everton game does not mean that much."
PSV will be without key midfielder Phillip Cocu for the game and Koeman must decide whether or not to give a debut to recent signing Patrick Kluivert.
"We will decide tomorrow whether he (Kluivert) will be called up," Koeman said. "I feel it's up to the player himself to a great extent as well.
"I have my own ideas and I will discuss them with Patrick and together we will take the decision. But it is doubtful if he starts on the bench tomorrow night or Sunday, when we take on Feyenoord."
