Fifa aim to reunite Zidane & Marco

Fifa hope to reunite Zinedine Zidane and Marco Materazzi in South Africa.

Zidane was shown a red card for head-butting the stopper in the chest in extra time in Berlin as Italy went on to lift the World Cup.

Materazzi has since revealed he commented on Zidane's sister in the build up to the moment of madness, as the story again reared its head earlier this month.

Fifa have now moved to bury the hatchet between the pair and are looking into the possibility of taking them on a goodwill mission to South Africa, the hosts of the 2010 World Cup.

"We are working on bringing together Zidane and Materazzi, perhaps they should go together to Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was held in prison for 27 years," Fifa president Sepp Blatter said.

"We are definitely working on it and that would bring an end to the story."

Reflecting on the World Cup final in Berlin, Blatter admits he was disappointed to see the game overshadowed by Zidane's red.

The Fifa president also said he would prefer the showpiece event was not decided on penalties, as was the case in Germany, as Italy won thanks to their precision from 12 yards.

He added: "It's a pity that the World Cup ended with a red card, it should never end like that.

"A World Cup final should also not be decided by penalty kicks because football is a team sport and that comes down to one on one, but we have no other solution."
