Suspended star exits Wolves
Wolverhampton Wanderers have terminated Chris Cornes's contract by mutual consent.
Wolverhampton Wanderers have terminated Chris Cornes's contract by mutual consent in the aftermath of the striker testing positive for cocaine.
The 19-year-old is approaching the end of a six-month Football Association ban incurred for providing a positive sample in a test at the club's Compton training ground last February.
The club suspended Cornes when the 'B' sample was confirmed as positive, but Wanderers stood by the player when the six-month ban was meted out by The FA.
In the meantime, Cornes continued to train with the team's squad, but a club spokesman has now confirmed that the two parties will go their separate ways.
"It has now been decided it is in the best interests of both parties the player pursues his career elsewhere," said a Wolves spokesman.
