Spain suffer Reyes loss
Jose Antonio Reyes has been ruled out of Spain's Euro 2008 qualifier against Sweden.
Jose Antonio Reyes has been ruled out of Spain's Euro 2008 qualifier against Sweden after suffering a torn muscle. The forward, currently on loan at Real Madrid from Arsenal, had to leave training early on Tuesday and subsequent examinations identified a minor thigh tear.
As a result Reyes will be unavailable for the trip to Solna to play Sweden in Group F on Saturday, as well as missing the high-profile friendly against Argentina four days later.
"Reyes had been struggling with a minor problem from Sunday's league match against Atletico Madrid and, after tests with the national team doctors, it was confirmed he had a minor muscle tear," confirmed a statement on Real's official website.
Spain coach Luis Aragones has called on Sevilla midfielder Antonio Puerta to replace Reyes as he attempts to undo the disastrous 3-2 defeat at the hands of Northern Ireland in La Furia Roja's last Euro 2008 qualifier.
It remains to be seen whether Reyes' injury will prevent him continuing the fine start he has made to his Real Madrid career, with Los Merengues next due to face Getafe on October 15.
