U's loan Hornets youngster

Cambridge United have signed Watford teenager Ben Gill on a month's loan.

The versatile 18-year-old has yet to make a first-team appearance for the Premiership new boys and has been allowed out to accrue experience.

Gill can play in defence or midfield, and Cambridge boss Jimmy Quinn was happy to bring in the youngster.

"I've been concerned about the defensive side of the team in case we get an injury because that would leave us short in that area," Quinn told the club's official website.

"Aidy (Boothroyd) is a good friend and he's done us a great favour and let us have a young lad who's a good defender.

"He hasn't played in their first team this season, but their first team coach Dave Hockaday is another good friend and he rates this lad, and that's good enough for me."

Meanwhile, Quinn has also added experienced midfielder Ben Sedgemore to his squad on a non-contract basis.
