Sheva boost for Ukraine

Andrei Shevchenko has handed Ukraine a boost after returning to training.

Andrei Shevchenko has handed Ukraine a boost after returning to training and he is expected to be declared fit for their game with Scotland on Wednesday.

The Chelsea hit-man missed his country's 2-0 defeat against Italy at the weekend with a virus but having taken part in a training session on Monday, it seems likely he will play in Kiev.

While the Ukrainians will be delighted with the return of their talismanic striker, they will, nevertheless, have to make do without the services of fellow forward Oleksiy Byelik and defender Oleh Romanchuk - who is also suffering with a virus.

Scotland head to Kiev in optimum spirits after Saturday's memorable victory over France, but when quizzed on whether he would rather face a Ukraine side with, or without the services of Shevchenko, midfielder Lee McCulloch gave an honest response.

"It would be a big boost if he missed out, because he is a fantastic player," conceded McCulloch.

"His form of late in England has not been so good, but, hopefully, they will be without him for the game against us."
