Ribery reveals Arsenal desire

Marseille playmaker Franck Ribery is eager to join Arsenal, according to his agent.

Marseille playmaker Franck Ribery is eager to join Arsenal and link up with compatriot Arsene Wenger, according to the player's agent.

The French international is one of Europe's most prodigious young talents and after a World Cup in which Ribery cemented his reputation as a player of real pedigree, he is not short of suitors.

A summer of intense speculation had the player jetting off all over continent, from England to Spain, but in the end he elected to remain in his homeland.

His agent, Bruno Heiderscheid, has now confirmed that Wenger was eager to strike an accord with Marseille to bring the player to North London - an inclination shared by his client.

It was, though, not a deal Marseille were keen to entertain and although they fought strongly, and successfully, to keep their talisman at Stade Velodrome - Heiderscheid has warned that Arsenal will come calling again next year.

"Arsene Wenger likes the player a lot," Heiderscheid told the News of the World.

"He wanted to take him this summer but Marseille refused to sell. Arsene has made it clear he wants to take him next year.

"Franck would very much like to join Arsenal because of Arsene, the style of football they play and also because his very close friend from the France team, Thierry Henry, plays for them."

Despite his confidence in the fact Arsenal will renew initial interest, Heiderscheid is keen to reiterate that as yet, no deal has been agreed with either party.

"I can categorically deny there is any agreement with Arsenal at this stage or even negotiations.

"These would have to take place in January at the earliest as we see how the season progresses with Marseille and Franck wants to concentrate on his current club.

"Franck is now a very big player in Europe and it's true the biggest clubs want him badly."
