Bellamy upset over court delay

Wales captain Craig Bellamy is disappointed his court case has been put on hold.

Wales captain Craig Bellamy is disappointed his court case has been put on hold.

Bellamy was due to appear in court on Tuesday to answer charges of common assault, but new evidence has emerged.

The case has now been adjourned until Friday when a new date for the hearing will be set by District Judge John Charles.

With Wales due to play Cyprus in a Euro 2008 qualifier on Wednesday, Bellamy admits he was keen for the matter to be concluded.

"I wanted to get it over and done with, but that's life," Bellamy told Sky Sports News.

"I will just play football now and look forward to a very, very important game."

The Liverpool striker will again skipper the Wales side in the absence of Ryan Giggs and, after losing his first game as captain 5-1 to Slovakia, hopes it will not be a recurring theme.

He added: "I am playing for Wales and I know how it can be for Wales.

"I had a text off Gary Speed straight after the game. 'I know how you feel' and that was it really.

"He explained he'd been through this and it's part and parcel of being Wales captain."

Cyprus head to Cardiff after thrashing Republic of Ireland 5-2, but Bellamy is hoping the Wales players can pick holes in the visiting side.

Bellamy said: "Attacking they are very good. They've got some good players, the two boys up front from Olympiakos have played in the Champions League and are used to winning in that (Greek) league.

"They've got a bit about them, but there are areas where we can get at this side and we hope that will provide dividends on the night."
