Aston Villa are waiting to learn the extent of Thomas Sorensen's shoulder injury after the goalkeeper was forced to pull out of the Denmark squad.

Sorensen was hurt during Denmark's 0-0 draw with Northern Ireland in a Euro 2008 Group F qualifier on Saturday.

He was replaced by Jesper Christiansen midway through the second half of the Copenhagen stalemate and underwent preliminary tests in his homeland.

The keeper has not suffered a broken collarbone, but has returned to Villa for further assessment on the injury.

Villa are now waiting to discover the full extent of the damage, with Stuart Taylor on stand-by to replace Sorensen for Saturday's Premiership game with Tottenham Hotspur.

Sorensen is the second Villa player to be struggling with a shoulder complaint, as young striker Luke Moore heads to America on Monday for surgery.

Meanwhile, Denmark coach Morten Olsen was unhappy that his side failed to break down Northern Ireland.

Olsen told TV2: "It is extremely disappointing that we didn't get the three points from a match like that.

"In the first half, we created chances, but in the second half, we got too febrile.

"We didn't get enough out of the dead balls and our crosses were not precise enough. Therefore, we didn't create the big chances."

In addition to Sorensen withdrawing from the squad for Wednesday's game with Liechtenstein, on-loan Birmingham striker Nicklas Bendtner is doubtful due to a knee injury.
