Angel admits 'crazy' game

Aston Villa striker Juan Pablo Angel admits it was a 'crazy' game against Spurs.

Aston Villa striker Juan Pablo Angel admits Saturday's 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur was a 'crazy' game.

The Colombia international was at the centre of two unfortunate incidents in the second half at Villa Park.

The 30-year-old missed a penalty that could have handed Martin O'Neill's side the lead before he unbelievably gifted Spurs a goal when he headed a corner into his own net seconds later.

The South American was relieved to see Villa captain Gareth Barry strike an equaliser and earn a point soon after.

"It was a crazy minute, but it was so crazy, it was almost funny," Angel told The Sun's 'Super Goals' segment.

"It was one of those days. But Robinson showed today why he is England's number one goalkeeper.

"I was more concerned about the save at the end than the penalty. It was good for him to play well.

"The main thing is we got a point. Gareth's goal was fantastic - as good as any I've seen here.

"It was a great relief for us and especially me after the own goal. Last year, that was a game we'd have lost.

"I heard Stuart Taylor shouting for me to leave the ball, but I just went off balance for a split second and it hit the side of my head and went in.

"But I'll keep taking penalties, absolutely. Okay, there have been a few misses, but there have been a few goals as well."

Angel, meanwhile, has called on England head coach Steve McClaren to recall Barry to his Three Lions squad.

"We all know about Gareth's ability," added Angel. "He has been playing very well from the beginning of the season.

"Against Tottenham was no exception and he scored a superb goal.

"He is a very intelligent lad and I am sure he will get the chance to play for England - and, when that chance comes around, I am sure he will do everyone proud at Aston Villa.

"He is a quality player and he is playing very well week-in and week-out. He is not one of those players that plays one game well and then doesn't perform in the next one.

"He has been doing it consistently over the years and I am sure England need that type of player.

"Like I said, he is very intelligent and knows his chance will come sooner rather than later."
