Cech could be back in months
Petr Cech could be playing again within months, according to the Czech team doctor.
Czech Republic team doctor Petr Krejci insists Petr Cech could be playing again within a few months, if his recovery goes according to plan. However, Krejci also emphasised that Cech himself will have to make the decision.
Krejci has been in contact with the doctors treating Cech, although he revealed he has only recently managed to get details of his prognosis.
"I spoke with them [doctors] on Tuesday so I have fresh news," revealed Krejci to Pravo.
"The good co-operation between the Czech Republic international team and Chelsea went sour on us in this case.
"I was allowed to gain news I had not known before as I had been unable to speak to anyone exactly about the injury.
"His parietal bone was wedged in his skull. He also suffered concussion of the brain and he was also unconscious for a short time - maybe it sounds dangerous but in terms of the bone, it is not such a serious problem.
"Our neurosurgeons are in contact with head injuries from car accidents every day and they don´t regard wedged paretial bone in the skull as a serious injury.
"Of course, there could be complications in case some fragments of the bone stab in the brain or there is internal bleeding. Fortunately, this did not happen, according to the English doctors - so they are optimistic. However, we still cannot eliminate this danger."
Many people are anxious to know when Cech could be available with some reports suggesting he could be out for the rest of the season, but Krejci feels the Chelsea number one will be playing again this term and could even return home this week.
"If there are no complications, he could be at home at the end of this week.
On when Cech could return he added: "I emphasise again that such a prognosis can be very tricky in head injuries so take it only as a prediction or a speculation from Prague.
"Firstly, it is important to see that Petr is really at 100 percent okay. He could then start training in a few weeks time and return to the league games in a few months time, but this is only in case his recovery goes on without problems.
"The doctors are saying at this moment that the lookout for his recovery is good. Of course, it will also depend on Petr´s personal feelings. In head injuries, you cannot hurry anything up."
Krejci did confirm that the injury to Cech could have been fatal.
"Unfortunately, yes, he could [ have died]," he said.
"On the supposition that his brain was damaged or that there was bleeding in the brain."
