Lund lands Leeds contract

Leeds caretaker boss John Carver has handed keeper Jonny Lund his first pro contract.

Leeds United caretaker boss John Carver has handed young goalkeeper Jonny Lund his first professional contract at Elland Road.

The Leeds-born 17-year-old has been in impressive form for the reserves this season, establishing himself as a regular between the sticks.

He has signed a three-year deal with the ailing Whites and steps up to the first team squad alongside experienced professionals Neil Sullivan and Tony Warner.

Lund originally joined the club as an eight-year-old, working his way up through the academy and has really prospered under the guidance of goalkeeping coach Martin Hodge this term.

With United still languishing in the Championship drop-zone, Carver will be hopeful the new addition can spark an upturn in the club's fortunes at Luton Town on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Leeds defender Matthew Kilgallon will have to serve a one-match ban after his red card against Leicester was upheld.

Kilgallon was shown red in Leeds' 2-1 loss to Leicester on Tuesday and The Whites feared he might be handed a three-game ban.

While Kilgallon will not miss three games, he will be forced to sit out their trip to Luton with Hayden Foxe likely to fill the void at the back.
