Sagnol slams referee

Bayern Munich defender Willy Sagnol has hit out at referee Herbert Fandel.

Bayern Munich defender Willy Sagnol has hit out at referee Herbert Fandel following the Bundesliga champions 3-1 defeat at  Werder Bremen on Saturday.

The French international star claimed the Uefa referee made far too many wrong calls to Bayern's disadvantage at the Weserstadion.

"Herr Fandel made many mistakes, far too many for a top game like that. In fact it is a scandal," Sagnol told Kicker.

Sagnol continued by admitting that Bayern were finding life without Michael Ballack harder than expected.

"Of course it was better when he (Ballack) was here. He is a great player and always a danger in front of goal," added Sagnol.

The Frenchman admitted that the Bavarian giants were struggling for form, but said he remained confident that he and his team-mates would be top of the tree come May.

"We are going through a difficult time and it could stay this way until the winter break," noted Sagnol. "I hope we can keep the gap to the leaders down otherwise it will be hard to keep pace.

"In January, February you will, however, all see a completely different FC Bayern."
