PSG announce Higuain interest
Alain Cayzac has admitted PSG are interested in signing River striker Gonzalo Higuain.
Paris Saint Germain chairman Alain Cayzac has admitted the Ligue 1 side are interested in signing River Plate wonderkid Gonzalo Higuain.Despite being just 18 the striker is already one of the hottest properties in Argentina and having been born in France a battle is already ensuing over which international set-up he commits himself to.
His club future also looks set to be hotly debated with a string of Europe's top sides tracking the progress of the forward who scored twice in the 'Superclasico' derby win over Boca Juniors earlier in October.
Agent Pini Zahavi claims to have bought a 50 percent share in the player's rights, with a move to England reputedly lined up, but the likes of Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Milan have also been taking a close interest.
Higuain is a long term target for PSG as the Parisians first tried to sign him last summer, and, despite his rapidly escalating asking price, Cayzac says the club are ready to move for him again.
The teenager impressed PSG scouts again three weeks ago and the club's supremo says Higuain is making a good impression - along with Servette starlet Julio Esteban.
"It is interesting," Cayzac admitted to L'Equipe.
"Higuain is a good and strong player, Julio Esteban is also interesting.
"It is still possible to sign Higuain, even if the price has rocketed.
"But you know my aim is not to consider Paris can only welcome minor players.
"We are following a lot of players, we are preparing for next season right now but I estimate we have enough players in our group.
"We have no objective for the winter transfer window, we will hire a player only if there is an opportunity."
France coach Raymond Domenech has already admitted he is following Higuain's progression with a view to a future with Les Bleus, but Argentina coach Alfio Basile is believed to be ready to steal a march on the Europeans by calling Higuain up in the near future.
The striker is remaining coy over his potential international future until he receives a concrete offer from either nation.
"I am still very young and have a lot of time for playing," said Higuain. "I can't say anything until something happens.
"When something concrete arrives I will make a decision and will let everyone know what I have decided.
"I will decide when there is something for sure and according to what is better for my career and my family."
Parallels have been drawn with current France international David Trezeguet as both players have Argentinian heritage, but Higuain refused to reveal whether he had turned to the Juventus man for advice.
"I don't know," said Higuain. "I still can't tell you anything."
