Fernando sorry for head-butt

Fernando Menegazzo feels he has learned a valuable lesson after being sent off for head-butting John Arne Riise.

The red mist descended on the Brazilian defender during the second half of Bordeaux's UEFA Champions League tie with Liverpool on Tuesday.

He was unhappy with Liverpool full back Riise for failing to return the ball and reacted by head-butting the Norwegian.

The 25-year-old accepts he made a serious error and is aware of the consequences of his actions after a 3-0 defeat ended Bordeaux's chances of reaching the second round.

"I made a blunder that will be a good lesson to me," said Fernando.

"I came towards Riise, who didn't want to give the ball back and for a few seconds I was not myself anymore.

"I didn't want to hit him, but it can't explain my gesture.

"I am aware I have penalised my team."
