Messi calls for Chelsea calm
Barcelona forward Lionel Messi admits he expects a battle to ensue at Camp Nou.
Barcelona forward Lionel Messi admits he expects a battle to ensue at Camp Nou on Tuesday evening as the Catalan giants welcome Chelsea for a crucial UEFA Champions League clash.Relations between the two clubs have simmered over the past couple of seasons and now Barca's diminutive schemer has stoked the fire further.
Last season saw Messi limp out of the second leg clash between the two clubs with a serious injury and now the playmaker is fearful of the same kind of treatment in midweek.
The Argentine international claims Chelsea's challenges are the most robust he has ever faced, which given his South American background is testimony to his thoughts on Barca's West London visitors.
"I am fit again and ready to take on Chelsea," he told the Daily Star.
"But I demand the Chelsea defenders calm down because, against them, I always get more kicks than in other matches.
"I think that some other teams have watched what Chelsea have done and copied their tactics, especially Real Madrid recently.
"Chelsea always try to kick me the most though - just look at the last few games between us.
"But I am sure we will win this game 2-0 as there is no way we can play as badly as we did at Stamford Bridge.
"But for us to beat (Jose) Mourinho in particular, it will be sensational."
Messi believe the key battle will take place in the centre of the field, of the opinion that Barcelona will be able to dictate proceedings if they can win individual challenges.
"The key for our victory will be in the midfield and, if we control the ball, I am convinced we can cause problems for Hilario."
