Mainz want Zidan back

Mainz have confirmed they are keen to re-sign Mohamed Zidan from Bremen.

Mainz have confirmed they are keen to lure Werder Bremen striker Mohamed Zidan back to the Bruchweg-Stadium.

Speculation in the German press has claimed the Bundesliga strugglers want Zidan, with Mainz acknowledging an interest.

‚Ç£Zidan has always been an option for us and we are going to knock on Bremen's door this winter in order to find out if there is a chance to sign Zidan,‚Ç¥ declared 05ers managing director Christian Heidel.

Mainz are currently second from bottom and, after only nine goals in their first 10 games, coach Jurgen Klopp is desperate to strengthen his strike-force during the winter transfer window.

Egyptian international Zidan spent large parts of last season on loan with the 05ers and played a vital role in keeping the small club in the top flight before Werder recalled him for the new season.

But Zidan has failed to break into Thomas Schaaf's starting formation due to competition from the likes of Miroslav Klose, shooting-star Aaron Hunt, Croatian Ivan Klasnic and Portuguese giant Hugo Almeida and could be tempted by a return to Mainz during the winter transfer window.
