Hansson set to move on

Heerenveen have resigned themselves to losing captain Petter Hansson in the summer.

Heerenveen have resigned themselves to losing captain Petter Hansson in the summer after the defender refused the club's latest contract offer.

Hansson has been on Heerenveen's books since 2002, but he is in the final months of his contract and has refused to agree a new deal.

The club came to the table with an improved proposal this week, but it was refused by the Swedish defender and the club have reluctantly accepted to end the talks.

"Petter had always stated that he wants to play in an other country," Heerenveen coach Gertjan Verbeek told De Telegraaf. "It's a pity, but we have to respect it."
