Marcelo bowled over by move

New signing Marcelo has spoken of his pride at clinching a move to Real Madrid.

New Real Madrid signing Marcelo has spoken of his pride at clinching a move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

The Primera titans have splashed out ‚é¼7 million (£4.5 million) for the 18-year-old left back and he will link up with his new team-mates when the transfer window reopens in January.

The teenager admits he is still in dreamland having secured a switch to Real at such an early age.

"For me it is a dream to have signed for Real Madrid at 18 years of age," he explained.

"I have played for another big team in Fluminense and I have to thank Real Madrid for following and then signing me at just 18.

"There was interest from other teams, but I wanted to go to Real Madrid.

"It's a team that is 104 years old, with a great history, many titles and who is also playing in the Champions League. It's a club that really impresses me."

Marcelo, who has been signed as Roberto Carlos' long-term successor, admits he is looking forward to the prospect of competing with the man he has for so long regarded as an inspiration.

"We play in the same position but I still have a long way to go to be as good as him - I am a big fan of Roberto Carlos," he continued.

"I have watched him play since I was small.

"What I want now is to have a good career at Real Madrid, win many titles and to be able to play regularly."
